EVENTS - BSC Sailing School 2011 July 25 - 29th (Contact Shane For More Info 306-441-8813, shane@mrwebsites.ca)

All sailing courses are taught using 420.s (4 meters, 20 centimeters long) purchased with the assistance from the CYA.s R.C. Stevenson Boat Loan fund. The focus of the program is to provide individuals with the basic proficiency to become a competent sailor who may continue to develop as a personal boat owner, use club boats at member clubs or crew with others. Instructors will either be in the sailboat with the students or in a coach boat. Instructors are certified with CYA credentials. The instructors have achieved the Bronze Sail 5, Level 1 NCCP theory, first aid, bronze medallion and have passed a week long instructor evaluator course. Level 2 instructors have achieved the Silver Sail Standard and have their Level 2 NCCP theory. Participants will learn the basics of balance, direction, propulsion, as well as rigging and launching. The course provides instruction on safety and seamanship. Required theory and practice enables you to sail with confidence. For the safety of participants and all those that go on the water, we are mandated by the Canadian Coast Guard to have life jackets on board. Some jackets are available for participants but they may also be purchased locally. Rubber soled or running shoes are good footwear. Remember, it may be cooler on the water. A wet suit, if you should own one, will ensure your warmth on the water. Also bring extra clothing and shoes to stay warm. A nylon shell jacket is a good idea.
